Equal MeasureIt has been a great blessing in my life to work with practically every “superstation” in the CCM format, and I’ve learned from each of them.
Working with the very best program directors and coaching perennial award-winning air talent has resulted in a very clear-eyed vision of what makes a station great. Besides the obvious factors, the Content of the station – the DNA of its makeup – is paramount.
Here’s what I want to hear (and you should, too): Equal measures of faith, and real, everyday life. Over the years it’s become obvious to me that overdoing either can take a station down, or create a weakness that can’t be overcome.
Yes, we’re Christians. But we don’t need a lot of lectures or “affirmation”-type reminders of what that means. After all, it’s really simple: let Christ into your heart, and live by The Golden Rule. If you truly live out your faith, you won’t spend a lot of time either patting yourself on the back or trying to lecture others on how their faith should be displayed. I never talk to a talent in a session about how; just how much.
