1. Share a moment in your career that you'll always remember.
JACK: About ten years ago a call came into the afternoon show just as we were getting to walk out of the studio and head home. I looked at Erin (my partner at the time) and said, "I don't want to answer that, but we probably should." Corine was the callers' name and she told us that, "She didn't want to live anymore and that today was the day that she was ending it." We were able to get police and ambulance to her before she tried to commit suicide and as she heard the knock on the door from our 911 call, the phone went dead. We hoped for the best but never heard what happened. A couple of months later. A woman approached us at a concert and introduced herself as Corine and said, "You saved my live that night." I've thought over the years what would have happened we hadn't answered the phone that night and just went home. God was all over the situation.
MOLLY: At one of the first station events, I attended after starting on air, a little boy named William came up to me, and with the biggest smile on his face, told me how much he loves listening to our show. As a kid who grew up listening to this very station and who was encouraged and shaped by it, it was a very fulfilling, full-circle moment to hear that I was helping to uplift another generation of kids in the same way.
2. If you weren't working in radio what else do you think you'd do?
JACK: I would be a freelance video producer or 2D animator. (I actually already do this :) I call it a hobby that pays me money sometimes.
MOLLY: I would be a Chinese Language Analyst at the National Security Agency! Right out of college, I started as an intern at BRIGHT-FM. But at the same time, I was going through the interview process at NSA for that position. They offered me the job, but then the station offered me a spot on Afternoons with Jack, and I felt God telling me to choose radio. It's kinda crazy how different my career could have looked!
3. Some great advice you've received is…
JACK: I think of two great pieces of advice: I told consultant Chuck Finney once that I need a lot of material because I have 18 breaks in a show to fill. He told me, "Jack, what if you do your very best thing in 18 different ways?" The other was from Mike McVay who told me,"When your butt hits the chair, you better be prepared, no winging it. Know how you want to end the break but look for the first exit that might be better than what you had originally planned."
MOLLY: The best thing you can share is the Word of God. It never fails!
4. How do you continue learning and growing?
JACK: Listening to other shows, listening to our own show. Trying to place ourselves in our listeners shoes and serving them where they are for their own benefit not for our own amusement.
MOLLY: I have great mentors and superiors who invest in me, and they continue to provide and encourage me to pursue opportunities for growth. Right now, I'm working on a GSelector certification!
5. What's one thing you wish you'd known about radio when you first started?
JACK: That it would actually be a career and the many zip codes I would be calling home.
MOLLY: Even working in Christian radio, there will be people who won't be kind. But just like momma said when some kid on the playground said something mean, "That says more about them and their heart than it does about you." So many times, when talking to someone after they've been unkind, I've come to find out that they were just going through something. And truly, haven't we all had moments like that?
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
JACK: My wife. She is a cancer fighter. Her first bout with breast cancer was in 1999 and the other in 2021. Her journey amazes me as she is still recovering right now. She could write her own book on both traditional and non-traditional treatments and questioning the status quo with the conventional thoughts surrounding that treatment. She is my love and my favorite person.
MOLLY: Jordan Lee Dooley. She's a Christian author, entrepreneur, and influencer who's actually very honest and transparent, stands up for what she believes in, and empowers women to live out their purpose, whatever that looks like. She's a bold and extremely hardworking woman of faith.
7. What's something about you that would surprise most people?
JACK: I started practicing jiu-jitsu this year. Right now, I'm looking at ACL reconstruction surgery. But I love it. It's like human chess that forces you to solve problems and be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. I see a lot of parallels in my Christian walk and being on the mat training.
MOLLY: One of my most frequently listened to genres of music is Metal.
8. What's your favorite room at home and why?
JACK: Man cave. Where Alabama and Ravens football reign supreme.
MOLLY: Our dining room! It's my place of calm. It has tons of windows and gets a lot of sunlight. I love just sitting at our table with the windows open, reading a book or doing some work.
9. Finish this sentence: My day doesn't start properly until I…
JACK: Have the biggest cup of coffee. All of my people skills are in that cup.
MOLLY: Get outside for some walking prayer!
10. What do you to unwind and chill?
JACK: BBQ. I'm a bit of a BBQ snob. Plus, I watch Jiu-Jitsu competition videos and think of one day what might be.
MOLLY: Netflix and a full plate of food. That is inner peace to me.
