Sweden's Avatar are Johannes Eckerström (Vocals), Jonas Jarlsby (Guitars), Tim Öhrström (Guitars), Henrik Sandelin (Bass), and John Alfredsson (Drums). Their songs like “The Eagle Has Landed,” “Hail the Apocalypse,” and “Let it Burn” have amassed more than 100 million streams. "Hail The Apocalypse" (2014) smashed into The Top 10 U.S. Top Hard Rock Albums, followed by the concept LP "Feathers & Flesh" (2016). The LP "Avatar Country" (2018) was the second-largest independent album in North America upon its debut.
Following the release of "Avatar Country," the group broadened its horizon into a feature film. AVATAR blew past a $50,000 Kickstarter campaign goal in less than 90 minutes, eventually collecting close to $200,000 to finance "Legend of Avatar Country." It was demonstrative of the feverish dedication of the band’s audience; the same fans who propelled them into the Rock Radio and Billboard Album charts since the band formed as teens in Gothenburg.
In 2019, Avatar reunited with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Slipknot, Anthrax) at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, California, and returned in 2020 with the LP "Hunter Gatherer." The band’s eighth album featured songs like “A Secret Door,” the first single “Colossus,” and “Age of Apes."
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the band was forced off the road for the longest time since the release of its debut. The band was determined to keep creating and reaching out to their fans. This ultimately led to one of the true milestones in the realm of streamed shows, as Avatar took possession of the whole month of January 2021 for their "Avatar Ages" concert series. Over the course of four weekends, they performed material from their entire catalogue, as voted on by their fans. The shows were a worldwide success.
In the summer of 2021, the band released the single "Going Hunting" and another track, "Barren Cloth Mother", ahead of the band's "Going Hunting" tour. Avatar also announced their own label, Black Waltz Records, in conjunction with Thirty Tigers distribution.
In late 2022, Avatar released the single "Dance Devil Dance", which is also the title track of their next album coming on February 17th. Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Mr.Bungle, Crobot, Stone Sour, Amon Amarth, Uriah Heepetc.) returned as producer. He first worked with the band when he mixed "Hail the Apocalypse", a role he reprised on "Feathers & Flesh" before taking the wheel as producer on "Avatar Country" and "Hunter Gatherer." Now the Swedish rockers have just released the new single "The Dirt I'm Buried In" and have a Headline Tour announcement coming soon!
