J. Roddy Walston And The Business
Jul 5, 2017
On June 26th, the Richmond-based band J. Roddy Walston And The Business released their new single called "The Wanting" via ATO Records. It was recorded at their Richmond studio and was co-produced by the band and Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Built To Spill). It's the first new music from the band since their 2013 album "Essential Tremors" which featured hits "Heavy Bells" and "Take It As It Comes." "The Wanting" will appear on the band's upcoming album set for release this fall. The band will be playing WXDX/Pittsburgh's X-Fest on September 9th followed by a full fall tour.
“I personally fell in love with writing music again,” J. Roddy Walston said in a statement. “It took awhile but once I realized I had room to try things that I had never tried before, I became addicted to the process.” Walston said “The Wanting” details the relationship of an estranged father and son: “Even though it is a dark song with a brutal ending, I find hope and beauty in the idea of these two people that had a shared sense of both regret and longing for each other.”
The band was formed in 2002 in Cleveland, Tennessee by J. Roddy Walston (vocals, piano & guitar). The Business now consists of Billy Gordon (lead guitar & vocals), Logan Davis (bass & vocals) and Steve Colmus (drums). The band is known for their energetic live shows and Walston's pounding style of playing the piano. They have previously released three full-length albums, “Hail Mega Boys” (2007), “J. Roddy Walston and the Business” (2010) and “Essential Tremors” (2013).
