Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros
Jun 16, 2013
The L.A.-based band is scheduled to digitally release a new self-titled 12-track collection on July 23rd in the US and Canada via Community/Vagrant Records. It is following their popular debut album, Up From Below and last year's Here. The newly released single, "Better Days" offers only a taste of what the upcoming album has to offer.
"I don't need much more than faith," Magnetic Zeros front man Alex Ebert sings on his band's lush new single. And it's a telling lyric: "Better Days" sounds like a warped Southern hymn beamed in from the Summer of Love, blending church bells, woodwinds, "Age of Aquarius"-styled choirs and a deeply psychedelic bass groove. In typical Zeros fashion, "Better Days" is undeniably corny--especially with Ebert's cracked tenor soaring over the sprawl, spreading carpe diem one-liners. The song is charming in its own goofy way, growing more hypnotic as it spirals toward an extended instrumental jam.
Lead singer-songwriter Alex Ebert explains the self-titled work will feature some of the "rawest, most-liberated, most rambunctious stuff we've done."
The celebrated indie-rock band recently embarked on a three month tour and is set to headline a variety of festivals throughout the US. Among these festivals, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are scheduled to headline Old St. Pats Church Block Party right in Chicago on June 28th.
