Jagwar Ma
Oct 7, 2016
On October 14th, the Australian duo Jagwar Ma will be releasing their sophomore album, "Every Now & Then" via Mom + Pop Records. The collection was recorded in the French countryside, specifically a so-called "rundown farmhouse" studio called La Brèche and Le Bunker, a studio in North London. In addition to Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, who appears on a song, Jagwar Ma's longtime mixer Ewan Pearson and producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, HAIM) also contribute. According to the band's Jono Ma, Jagwar Ma looked to the Beastie Boys for inspiration during their recording sessions. "OB 1" was the first track released online followed by "Give Me One Reason" which is out now.
"It's interesting - one record we went back to while making it was Paul's Boutique," he explains. "The Dust Brothers work on that was immense, where they drew on little snippets from anywhere and mismatched things to create this tapestry, this mosaic of different sounds with different emotional reference points. That's what was interesting to me."
Jagwar Ma consists of multi-instrumentalist and producer Jono Ma and singer/guitarist Gabriel Winterfield. They were formed in Sydney in 2011, and released their debut album, "Howlin" in 2013. In the last year Jagwar Ma have played the Summer Festival circuit throughout the UK, EU and Australia including Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, Pukkelpop, Latitude, Bestival, Paredes de Coura Festival, The Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass among others. Jagwar Ma have also played sold out headline tours in the UK, France, Australia and the U.S.
The duo, joined by live bass player Jack Freeman, debuted their new music at various summer festival dates and a short October tour in the UK.
