Ra is a metal and post-grunge band from Los Angeles, California, taking their name from the Egyptian sun god, Ra. The band was formed in 1996, and took off around 2002, when their song "Do You Call My Name" from their album "From One" was released. Back then their music was described as "exotic yet familiar, heavy yet funky, direct yet sophisticated, sensual yet soulful, unrelenting yet cathartic."
Besides "Do You Call My Name," Ra has had success with the songs "Fallen Angels," "Don't Turn Away," and "Broken Hearted Soul." To date, the band, which features Vocalist/Guitarist Sahaj Ticotin, Guitarist Ben Carroll, Bassist PJ Farley, and Drummer Skoota Warner, has sold 400,000+ albums in North America alone.
The band's last LP "Critical Mass" came out in 2013, and their next release called "Intercorrupted" will be out on March 19.2021.The title track has just been released and this is the first new Ra music in seven years.
Frontman Ticotin has said the origin of the name Ra comes up in many of their songs saying "There's an underlying theme where 80 to 90 percent of the songs have the word sun in it. So I have a little sun fetish and I thought that Ra was appropriate."
