Vampire Weekend
May 6, 2019
It’s been six years since Vampire Weekend won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City. But Ezra Koenig and company have now returned with the band's fourth album, Father of the Bride.
Both “Harmony Hall” and “This Life” have been warmly embraced by Triple A, but several other tracks off the Koenig-Ariel Rechtshaid co-produced project standout including “Big Blue,” “Unbearably White,” “Sympathy” and “2021.”
As an aside, Vampire Weekend’s eponymous debut album was recently certified Platinum by the RIAA. Between albums, Koenig has also been busy releasing his Netflix anime series Neo Yokio, continuing to host his Time Crisis show on Beats1 and co-writing and producing Beyoncé’s “Hold Up."
“We did our thing with the first three records, but it was clear to me that this album needed a different vibe,” Koenig (who now lives in L.A.) recently told the Los Angeles Times.
Vampire Weekend celebrated the album’s release with an all-day show Sunday, May 5th at New York’s recently reopened Webster Hall. Over the course of the morning and afternoon, the band played three sets including a performance of the new album in its entirety.
And on Tuesday, May 7th, Vampire Weekend will make its first television appearance in five years with a performance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
