Glassnote Recording artist Jade Bird shares her cover of the iconic anthem “American Pie” by Don McLean ahead of its inclusion as the lead single in the Paramount+ documentary, THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: THE STORY OF DON MCCLEAN’S “AMERICAN PIE.” Bird will be donating a portion of the single sales to Planned Parenthood, in light of the US Supreme Court’s decision to restrict access to reproductive healthcare.
Bird shares “I’m so honored to be taking a small part in the time-defying legacy of ‘American Pie’ - It’s hard to imagine this song not being a part of everyday life. Having recorded this in the south, where the recent Supreme Court decision has hit so rapidly, it only feels right that a portion of the proceeds of my version contribute to combating the tragic removal of the human right to reproductive healthcare we are now seeing in America.”
The documentary will be available for streaming on July 19th with an additional Academy qualifying run in New York City and Los Angeles starting on July 8th and will screen in Showcase Cinemas and associated theaters globally on July 14th and July 17th. Go here to listen to the single.
This is the first release Bird has shared since her 2021 sophomore album Different Kinds of Light. For her Summer US dates and ticket information with Shakey Graves go here.
