In the early 2010s, R&B artist emerged, singer and songwriter Elle Varner grew up around music and spent most of her time in recording studios. She was very lucky that her parents were music industry veterans. Mikelyn Roderick, her mother, was the backup vocalist for Barry White and worked with Tevin Campbell and Rahsaan Patterson. Her father on the other hand, Jimmy Varner, was a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. At a young age, Elle Varner would follow her parents to sessions and learn the ins and outs of recording. She was signed to the J-label, which is known to be home for inspiration and contemporary artist like Monica, Alicia Keys, Marsha Ambrosius, Jazmine Sullivan-Varner. By August 2011, she debuted “Only Wanna Give It to You,” featuring J.Cole. The single did so well that it peaked at number 20 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart. It wasn’t long for Varner to join the RCA roster since the J-label was eliminated. Then, in March 2012, her hit “Refill” hit the chart and made it to the top. She made her album debut Perfectly Imperfect in August 2012 that hit number four on the Billboard 200 chart. She made a few changes to her second album by having an edgier sound. Her singles “Don’t Wanna Dance” and “F*ck It All” were released in 2014 and then came her parent album, 4 Letter World, released in 2015.
