Building a great radio station is very similar to the steps you have to take to build a great relationship with another person in everyday life. If we move away from creating a presentation and production and think of ways to become friends with and engage with our listeners, we will win over and over again. Think of the steps you went through when you first met your spouse or best friend.

• You introduced yourself
• You immediately tried to find common interests
• You were interested in their life story and less interested in yourself
• You did all you could to be interesting and fun to be around
• You avoided being offensive
• You asked to see them again
• You got to know each other
• You listened to a lot of the same music together
• They told others about you, you were happy to find out about that
• Then you made a commitment
• You work very hard to this day to live up to this commitment
