The news has been full of the shocking behavior and cover-ups of Harvey Weinstein and others. 2017 also saw Fox News shake-ups from sexual harassment claims against Bill O'Reilly and Roger Ailes.
This behavior exists in our industry, too, but not for long. More women are in positions of power, more victims speak up, more claims are taken seriously than before and the ungentlemanly among us are shaping up or will be pushed out.
A clever anti-harassment guideline surfaced this week called "The Rock Test." Writer Anne Victoria Clark wrote an article in Medium that she claimed will "have men treating women like people in no time."
Ms. Clark's suggestion is for men to "treat all women as you would Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
The premise is that whenever you are in a work situation, pretend that you are not with an attractive woman, but picture them as The Rock. Do not do or say anything that The Rock would find inappropriate or offensive. Or else.
In one example she says, "... don't hit on her. It looks like she could kill you with that chair you are sitting on."
"The Rock" tweeted the post out himself and has endorsed the idea. It is a refreshing and funny way of looking at a serious issue.
