Managers everywhere are looking for an edge. There is no handbook for excellence. Only ideas...
- People don't rise to low expectations.
- Fly in the face of conformity.
- Stay humble: Success is almost never your own doing and rarely irreversible.
- Really great leaders are like Tom Cruise in the epic Top Gun; they're flying their plane upside down.
- There is very little traffic in the extra mile.
- Think lean, act fast.
- Playing it safeis dangerous.
- Ask yourself, "How would an entrepreneur do this?"
- Don't manage to save your job; manage to win!
- Keep a lean management organization because it's tough to mask poor performance.
- Ask yourself how youcan do it before you ask someone else how it's always been done.
- Underspent" doesn't equate to "well spent."
- Admit mistakes, learn from mistakes, and move on.
Collecting "good ideas" is important and worthwhile. Studying successes such as Southwest Airlines (Herb Kelleher) of Starbucks (Howard Shultz) offer us priceless attitudes and aptitudes.
There's always a better way.
