The Conclave
We are now inside that magic 60 day window when plans are being finalized and finals being planned. And the 36th annual Conclave Summer Learning Conference is kicking off July 14th in the Twin Cities. The buzz word(s) at the World Wide Radio Summit were "Everyone is so positive. It's great to go, learn and be around people who think the way I do." This is paraphrased but nails it.
If you haven't attended, this would be a good year to start. Plus it's the one weekend of the year that it doesn't snow in Minneapolis. Agenda, registration and the proverbial "more" at www.theconclave.com
Signs That Get Attention
Entercom in Denver was the first cluster I saw with the big sails you stick in the ground. Now everyone has them and they kind of blur together.
I've yet to see a station that's done these. http://signspin.com For Chet's toy drive at KLUC, the station hired some of these people to work the adjacent intersections. IF....you had an intern or street teamer who was on drumline or baton squad or whatever...you would crush every other remote in town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgyaDv8l1iU
Your Summer Street War Chest
No less than three (absolutely stunned) Promo people have reached out to me in the past couple of weeks and said that the company wants to...wait for it...spend money. And to come up with a list of stuff.
You need to work on the infrastructure of the department. Asking for outdoor and cash for contesting is the easy route, and all your brethren are going to do that. You want to approach this the way you would when manipulating your parents for money. Make them think you're looking longterm. Investments.
First thing I'd do is upgrade the signs, ie: above. I'm into stickers. That's just me. But there's a lot you can do with them besides setting a stack on a table at a remote.
Hunter Greene, who is not just a color swatch at Earl Scheib but also one of the best promo people out there when it comes to "streets" added his list.
