9/11 Video
Less than 60 days until the 10th anniversary and as we get into late August it's going to be pretty prominent in just about all media in all markets. To miss it would be pretty sad. With that said, there are already about a dozen stations with some seriously good plans in the works.
Me? I'd borrow a page from "It Gets Better" and do a NICE quality video based on the theme "Never Forget". Not just your airstaff. Police officers. Fire fighters. Politicians (who will do ANYTHING for facetime). TV anchors. Athletes. And just regular people out on the streets. ESPECIALLY anyone who has lost loved ones in Afghanistan or Iraq. Vets. This could be a ridiculously cool way to get a cross section of people delivering a simple message: that we will never ever forget what happened to us all ten years ago.
9/11 Imaging
If you still have audio from your morning show that day, use it. All of the national coverage and remembrances will focus on the CNN and Today Show "moments".
You need to localize it. EVERYONE remembers where they were. Start collecting material that references stuff like "I remember I'd just pulled into parking ramp at the U and...", "I was walking on the Nicolette Mall and this woman walked by me crying..."
9/11 Visual
It will be great that you change the photo on your Facebook page. Probably no one else will think to do that.
You need the big visual. You need a hillside covered in 3214 flags. You need the empty shoes with a name card and candle next to each. Think like a TV cameraman. They're going to be looking for this stuff. Ditto with tolling of bells by the way. Power in Miami did that and it was amazing.
