Family Forty Packs
One of the stations has forty tickets for one winner to one of the premiere entertainment venues in the world. (I’ll let you try to figure out where that is.) The park wants on-line. So the entry form will be a blank family tree. You fill it in with the names of everyone who would be going. And the on-air promos will feature actual clips of pukey competitors doing “family four packs”. Tag line? “Because size DOES matter”.
The Family Section
Station-to-remain-nameless has a NASCAR track that wants a promotion. NASCAR is like football or hockey or to a way lesser degree, baseball. As a parent, I’m going to be a little trepidatious(c) about bringing the Paigettes to sit, surrounded by drunken foul-mouthed louts(tm). The Minnesota Twins have a family section. No alcohol. It’s VERY popular.
So we pitched that at the track and they freaking loved it. File this for the next time you have a client like this; anytime you can help make them more accessible to a broader audience, they’ll love you.
Still Hope For Terrestrial Radio
There was an OM, let’s call him “Bob”. His excuse for ignoring Katrina was that “People don’t listen to the radio to hear bad news.” His excuse for telling the afternoon DJ to “Mention it once, quickly and get back to music” (in reference to a tornado that was blasting through a suburb) was “People don’t listen to music stations for weather.”
He’s now moved on to another industry. Possibly fastfood.
So it’s nice to see signs of intelligence in our little corner of the universe.
First, kudos and even an accolade to 97.3 Eagle in Norfolk where they pulled all of their contesting off the air on Monday in response to the tragic deaths of 30 locally based troops in Afghanistan. Their message, paraphrased, was “Now is the time to focus on members of our community who are in mourning, and not on silly games.”
And you may have seen a small blurb on the news about some minor disturbances in the UK.
BRMB (fresh off the best numbers in the history of the station)(and the oft-mentioned Naked Wedding) was out on the streets covering it and providing constantly updated information on the riots, the response and resources available for people in need.
And here’s a quick peek how their digital numbers have been:

Last night brmb was without doubt one of, if not THE lead news source for up to the second vital information on the Birmingham riots, embraced right across all our platforms. brmb has once again proved itself to be the station that belongs to Birmingham this week.
