If you are still looking for sponsors for various highschool stuff, one of the stations got Burger King to buy in as the sponsor of their Friday Night Lights football patrol, and WIXX in Green Bay got them to sponsor the Thursday night "cheerleaders in the studio" feature.
Booty Cruise
Few great, historic benchmark features were ever created by focus groups or people sitting around the conference room table with a mission statement and the goal of "Today, let's come up with a bit that we'll do every year for decades to come!"
Generally these promotions happen when you do lots and lots of contests, events and features and something just hits. And you're smart enough to go "Huh. We might need to do that one again." And thus beginneth the series.
Which is pretty much how the KDWB Booty Cruise began. They do it several times a summer and it's still the hottest ticket of anything they do on the station. A couple of hundred drunk women, some male dancers, their psychic and a boat. It IS Rocket Science. Campus Invasions
The students will begin filling the dorms in a a couple of weeks so now would be the time to start planning.
Z-102.9 in Cedar Rapids was the first station I saw that had everyone (literally, everyone on the staff) at UI on move-in day to help greet and carry. Epic marketing. And Erich from Z-94.7 in Grand Forks was the first to broach the area of logo'ed ping pong balls. CHEAP and effective swag. You want something that won't sit in a drawer, and ping pong balls won't.
You know what would be cool? Printable labels from your station website. I go in, type "Paige Nienaber" and print and get 64 logoed labels to stick on CD's, DVD's, books and other stuff. Because anyone who's ever had a roommate knows how stuff gets mixed up. Sample or template at http://www.onlinelabels.com/OL1050.htm
