Phone Hacking

In about 2002 I had an idea that I lobbed at Dave Ryan, he did it and the next day 800 other CHR morning shows did it. With the phone hacking in the UK, you could easily bring it back.

You present it as your morning show having gotten your hands on one of the hacked files. The Murdoch paper had targeted Katy Perry when she was in London and they got two minutes of her having a REALLY dirty conversation with her husband Russell Brand.

You're the ONLY morning show in the US that has it. "The quality is not great, we'll warn you up front. So be prepared to raise the volume if you can't hear it clearly. We've posted it and have asked Allison at the front desk to unplug the phones for an hour because we KNOW we're going to get calls from their attorneys. So go and listen before we have to take it down."

There is maybe ten seconds of low mumbling between a man and a woman...and then VERY clearly, you hear a guy shouting "Hey everybody! I'm looking at porn at work! And I love it!"

Wild in SFO did something that was pretty cool when they went and paid for community pool admissions on days where it topped 94.9. Just a good excuse to hit San Jose and market the station for a relatively low cost. (I think it was like $2 a person). Jamz in Vegas did it with baseball tickets to their minor league team; temp hit 94.1 and they opened up the phones and blew out tickets. KLUC has done something similar with water park passes.

So what if you did it with tweeting? Take a photo of an intern sitting on a chair in the parking lot with a big gulp, an old school mercury thermometer and an iphone. Every time the temp edges up a degree, he tweets the new temperature. When he finally tweets your dial position, that's the cue to call in. The first 102 (or whatever) people to get through and say "Damn it's hot, hook me up!" would get something like water park tickets or movie passes.
