Great Moments In Scaring The Audience
There's a new morning show starting at Play 98.7 in Tampa as of a couple weeks ago.
Leading up to the launch the promo staff at 98.7 was out with 10,000 fake parking tickets, sticking them under people's windshield wipers. It's a great oldie but goodie that was recently resurrected by BRMB in Birmingham when they wanted to create buzz about their new morning show. The morning show added 300 FB friends the first day of the campaign, if we care about stuff like that. And they hadn't launched yet.
Everyone who replied was qualified for Free Gas For A Year, which is a hook that Newcap in Edmonton did in 2005. Back then it worked out to about $2300. Now, what sounds larger? $2300 or $3000 or $4000 or "Free Gas For A Year." It's all semantics. And I've never been anti-semantic
For The Night Show
Wild in Oklahoma City did something for April Fools that you could easily steal and use for Back To School. Have the night show talk about how three local highschools will be changing their names for the start of this school year. Because of budget shortfalls, the school district has sold the names, ie: Edina will become Qualcom Highschool, Richfield will become Northwest Airlines High and Southwest will become Marshall Fields High. Kids and their parents will go crazy.
For The Holidays
A station-to-remain-nameless has scored a deal where the morning show will have personalized gift cards at a local mall for the holiday season. Their face will be on the cards which will sell for $30 and have a $25 value. $5 will go to the show's charity, but the purchaser will also get a $5 gift certificate to Applebees. How cool is that?
