All Things Textable And Twitterable
The Big Scroll
There are many opportunities to have scrolling names on the website. Congraduations. Daily birthday greetings. Deployed troops on the 4th of July. Valentines weekend you could have a scrolling message bar on the website and someone to take texts and emails, screen for terms like "Hot Carl" and post.
Make Her Heart Go Twitter
KRST in Albuquerque did Trick Or Tweet on Halloween and had updated info on streets and neighborhood's that had the best decorations and candy. There will be a LOT of men who wake up on Valentines morning and utter some version of "Oh dear God, no. I forgot." Have constantly updated info on restaurants and seating availability, florists that are open, etc.
Tweet To Your Seat
As done by NOW in SFO and a hundred other stations. You have someone on the streets and you message clues to their location every ten minutes. The first person to dash up and ask the correct phrase, wins. Just done by WPGC for Lil Wayne. It was large.
Final Textination
I heard a morning show topic on KOB-FM that took off. They were looking for the most distant and also weirdest place that people were listening that morning. One guy called from a fire tower in the mountains. David Cross from "Arrested Development" made news when he texted a friend from a White House dinner and boasted to have done a line of coke just 20 feet from where the President was sitting. There's a bit; strangest place (with photo documentation) to be texting in from.
Text Your Ex
Texting doesn't have the audio payoff that call-ins do. So some of these recaps are going to have to be straight to the website. Reading it on the air just doesn't have the sizzle of "prank call of the day". But it's hilarious to read. I'm sorry, but these made me laugh. http://www.fugly.com/victims/ With that said, my ex-gf lives on Maui. We're friends. She's still nuts and when I get bored, I'll push her buttons. I found a photo of her younger sister on the beach. Texted gf and mentioned I had one of her sister looking hot. BANG. She flipped out. Her 27 tm replies were priceless. As a morning show bit have people push ex buttons and post the replies.
Heat 'N Tweet
About to be done somewhere. Every time the temp goes up a degree, it's tweeted. When they hit the dial position and it's sent out, that's the cue to call.
Textshirts
Doing shirts for charity, stick a code on them for on-site additional fundraising potential http://reactee.com/
Text Marks The Spot
As done by one of the stations with clues sent to the database every ten minutes that lead to hidden backstage passes. Done by a bored Country artist in 2009. Hid some passes for that evenings show in a garbage can outside his hotel and tweeted clues all day.
I'll Text To That
Drunken next-day texts submitted by your listeners. As evidenced by the "texts from last night", drunken messaging does in fact occur. http://textsfromlastnight.com/
The Text Of Shame
Same concept as above.
School Spirit
Homecoming dances are coming up. Power in Miami got something like a million texts for Akon in '10. A free dance is still a free dance.
WTF!
Win texting free. Give away free plans to the kids at night.
Textervention
I took my niece to a movie last year. She spent the first 30 minutes trading messages with friends...until I reached over, grabbed it and turned it off. You would have thought I just shut off her IV. A TV station in the UK did this and took away a families mobile phones and disconnected them from the internet. Basically knocked them back to 1991. Or 1881. We all know someone who is a texting fiend. Can't carry on basic human interaction. Step in, take it away and see how they handle a week or dealing with people without the filter.
Text Degrees Of Separation
Kind of like the "Who Do You Know?" bit. Get a tweet or text from the most famous celeb and win.
Blackberry History Month
Famous moments in IM history. On this date in 2003, Paris Hilton messaged her assistant to go to Sure Save and get her tampons.
Text Rated
I don't think there's been a station that hasn't done something with Sexting, which is definitely an issue with highschool kids. You could have a spot on the website for the most profane text a listener had gotten from their partner, or, you do the old bit where a woman has dial position number of minutes to lure her husband out of a meeting and to a motel, using only IM.
Textperate Housewives
For something like spa packages, walk up to random women and ask to read what they've been sending out, on the air. If they comply, they get the package.
