He’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.........
I would be remiss (to “miss” and then do it again) if I didn’t mention that Chet Buchanen, who hosts not-even-arguably the biggest toy drive in Radio is at it again. This is the 11th year he’s lived on a scaffold for 10 days. Nothing is bigger then this. www.kluc.com
Party Planes
Sitting around Clifton’s swimming pool in about 1994, Tony Brown from V in Atlanta commented on how he hated qualifying people for flyaways. This spun into V and Wild in SFO, almost in conjunction, flying planes of listeners to Disneyworld and Land for a day. Down in the morning, back at night.
Since then Live in Ottawa and a couple of other stations have done GNO (Girls Night Out) overnights to Vegas. Wired in Saskatoon called it “17 Hours In Vegas”. And now some more...
- AMP in LA is filling a plane to send listeners to The Throne show in Vegas. http://amp.radio.com/2011/10/30/win-a-seat-on-amps-party-plane-to-vegas-to-see-jay-z-and-kanye-west-on-the-watch-the-thronetour/
- The entire staff at Kiss in Boise just got back Las Vegas with a plane of winners. There was a Hangover-ish lost cell phone recap of Michelle Hearts’ adventures that suddenly hit when they get back.
- But Y94 in Fargo wins the coveted cup for torturing the audience for four days with the tease that the Morning Playhouse “is leaving”. It’s the standard “complete the sentence” bit. Jamz in Birmingham did it with “95.7 Jamz is going away....to Orlando and we want you to come with”. Angst. Pain. Suffering. All played out on FB as people thought the show was going off the air. No, they were leaving...for Las Vegas.
New Years Party Crashing
If you are just at a club, that would be pretty sad. Everything you do on NYE is for the between-the-songs vibe. To accentuate the sound for the 1000’s of parties that will hopefully be using you as music. And that’s why crashing a couple dozen parties and getting calls and pics (up the next morning) is important.
How do you pick the parties you hit? On the website. Come up with a cool graphic and give them a quick form to fill out. In addition to the obvious “where” and “when” and “how many”, you’ll want to spice it up and ask some stuff like?
- Potential of nudity? 0%, 10%, 25% 50%, 75%, or 100%?
- Domestic or imported beer?
- Accessibility to a hot tub?
- Illegal fireworks?
- Have the police ever been summoned to this residence before?
- Describe briefly the array of food our under-paid and over-worked staff can except to find.
Another consideration when selecting locations is distance between them. Map out the night so you only have 10-15 minutes max between hits.
