The Big Game Weekend
You know how you'll occasionally get board games from promotional companies for giveaway on the morning show? And how they end up clogging and taking up space in the prize closet for about six or seven years before an industrious intern finally throws them all away? Chris Taylor at Flinn suggests, correctly, that this would be the weekend where you have a genuine excuse to blow them all out.
Jamz in Birmingham did The Super Bowl Of Jamz for a weekend contest. Gridded out battle of the songs on the website. Guess which one will...go...all...the...way. And the morning show at 'DVD in Detroit did their own chili cookoff on the Friday morning before the game.
Spring Break
One of the stations has a mall that wants to do something that caters to the moms of school kids who are off for a week but are too young to be driving and finding ways to keep themselves occupied. What if you did "Mothers Little Helper" and every day did something different. A Guitar Hero competition. A movie in the centercourt. Story time. A treasure hunt. Just lots of summercamp-ish activities and games to keep them occupied for a week.
I Like My Money Dirty
From the lovely and talented and not-all-that-bright (she quit Australia to return to American Radio) Tracy Austin:
Did I tell you about the 'dirty cash' promo we did? Off of a story out of Japan about someone finding money in a bathroom, we circulated varying amounts of bills hidden inside zip lock bags and put them in bathrooms, dropped them at stores, movie theatres etc. There was also a note inside 'ransom style' that say 'dare you to spend this' (which we spent many hours cutting letters out of magazines to make!) After it was out there a few weeks we went on the air with a 'Scream phone' voice on air saying 'I KNOW YOU FOUND MY MONEY.' Then we'd read off specific serial #s to win the big money, so if you kept the money and didn't spend it, you were rewarded. Some of them were turned into the police... All in all, it was fun and the scary voice was exciting.
