Still Hope For Terrestrial Radio
It was interesting how KDWB's K-Jabs thing from a few weeks ago really resonated with people in Radio. I got (and I know they did too) flooded with emails from industry people commenting on how cool it was and it had kind of reinvigorated their passion for the medium.
I got a lot of "Wow, I didn't know we were still allowed to do that stuff" messages. As if Marconi had memo'ed from the grave in about 2007, "We no longer care about the listeners. They can die as far as I'm concerned."
So the small market and minimally listened-to Dallas is changing their name today to 106.1 Laura-FM in honor of a local teen who is dying of Cystic Fibrosis. God bless the people who "get" the power of this medium.
Kinda like....
The Power Of Radio
You might have heard that Whitney Houston died. Yeah. It happened on a weekend so a lot of stations missed it. Damn her and her bad timing.
Dave Ryan at KDWB reached out to the people at Hazelden, which is a local rehab center, for input on celebrities and addiction. And they should know; it's the Disneyworld of celebrity rebab. Following the interviews, they got this:
Just a quick follow-up to let you know that in the aftermath of my interview with Dave on Monday I received six phone calls from people/families seeking help for addiction-related problems.
Of those six, two are in the process of being admitted to Hazelden, two others have entered other programs in the Twin Cities and the other two are in process of receiving guidance.
In other words, your program had an immediate and significant impact.
To that, I say, Suck it Pandora!!
