Spring Broke
About to start "somewhere". Again, just a series of club events geared at the financially challenged local students who can't afford to join their drunken friends in Mexico or South Padre. I flew yesterday and can attest that Spring Break has begun. To be a CHR and not acknowledge it would be pretty sad.
Cocktail Napkins
If you were to go through the landfill that is my office you'd find literally hundreds of cocktail napkins. All with scribbled notes on them. There's something about writing on these things that spurs creativity. I was flying the other day. Flight attendant asked if I wanted something to drink. I said no but I'd take the napkin. And proceeded to fill three of them with notes and ideas that just spilled from my head. The first mistake stations make when doing brainstorming is that they do it at the station. Go to a bar. Don't bring pads or easels. Just get a stack of these napkins and watch the ideas percolate.
Lubbock???
First, to paraphrase Lt. Dan, Lubbock is a wonderful town. Went through there one time. But I don't see it being really high on Weekend Getaway Destinations. But I've already jumped two steps ahead in the story.
A morning show bit from KOB-FM had them taking a winner on Friday morning, picking them and their spouse up in a limo, rushing to the Albuquerque airport and sticking them on the next flight out of town for a weekend away. As they rolled up, as luck would have it the next flight out was to Lubbock. Fortunately (?) there was a credit card glitch while they were buying the tickets, they got on the next flight to Dallas and had a great weekend at the clubs and hitting the nightlife.
Spur-of-the-moment jetaways. Your next frontier.
You Can Scrub And Yet, They're Still There
While I was blizzarded in in New York two weeks ago, Kayla, the ("hot" is a given) highschool senior who watches my daughters a couple of afternoon's a week, was back in The F.L. (Forest Lake) counting down the days to her senior prom. And even though she doesn't have a date lined up yet, she's already booked her limo. Limos are THE promo item for prom. In fact, you should book as many as you can NOW and give them away later.
Parents are equally culpable in this limo phenom. They think that by renting their kids a stretch, they will be insuring a safe evening. Lotta new grandparents out there because of that mindset. (But it is definitely preferable to drinking, driving and getting a special memorial page in the yearbook.) Anyway, I've lobbed this out before. I just never actually found a device that would help you pull it off.
Go to http://www.getcheckmate.com/ , buy their deposit detecting product, and go down to a limo company on a Monday and test some backseats.
