Favorite Quote From Yesterday
"We don't do April Fools. We don't lie to our listeners." (said with the kind of sneer used when referring to people to molest puppies) From a GM. Prediction? Go to Google on Thursday. They'll do "something". Wow. Google doesn't take themselves too seriously. We're in Radio; why do we?
Mothers Little Helper
When the long-suffering and addled by a crippling addiction to prescription meds, Mrs. Paige, is having a long and tiring day (the kind only a stay at home mom with two little girls can have), I'll stop and grab a pizza or some Chinese food. And she is NEVER not eternally grateful. "One last thing I have to worry about" is usually how she phrases it.
So, one of the stations had a request from Dominos for something during afternoon drive. What if you did a bit every day where some guy, on his way home, phones in with the tale of his last vm or email that he'd gotten from his wife. Kids set the dog on fire. Plumber never came. She has a cold and has no energy. Washer overflowed and she spent the day mopping it up. THESE are the reasons God created takeout food. You call your contact at the client and a pizza arrives at his door step at about the same time as he pulls into the driveway. You could pretty much do this with Applebees or any place that does delivery or takeout.
Prom Limo Confessions
Taxi Driver Confessions was a hit. Why not, for the busy prom season, get your night guy a Class B (or whatever) chauffeurs license and have him spend one Saturday night in May, driving kids to prom. Cam the dashboard facing back. This is one of those million hit youtube clips that corporate is hounding you to use to drive hits on your website.
For Your Remotes
As exciting as a prize wheel is, what else can you do to keep people busy and otherwise entertained at these scintillating appearances?
From Special Ed, the oldest and greatest Street Teamer in Radio, from Wild 94.1 in Tampa:
- Just got in a folder-sized flash cards from Fox for a promotion they're doing...and i thought what if you take flash cards.....on one side you put the station logo for all the cards and the other side, put a picture of the station dj or an artist that you play....and do 2 of each...mix them all up on the table and listeners have to play like Classic Concentration.....something fun to do at the remote, incorporates your station, and sheds press on either the artists your pumping or your dj's...
- The other game show you could steal would be like "Who Wants To Be A Millonaire?"..instead do, "Who Wants To Win These Tickets" or whatever it is your playing for.......get a whole bunch of general knowledge questions and maybe you do three levels with your concert tix as the "million dollar prize"......maybe if they get 1st question right, they get a shirt or DVD...maybe 2nd question right they can gamble the shirt and win the gift certificate or whatever..and then obviously if they want, they go for the million dollar prize..the concert tix......Best part about this game, you could incorporate the client and station by giving them ONE lifeline...so if they get stuck they can ask one of the car salesman at the remote, or they can ask a street teamer......however it is you choose to play it......
