Pennies From Heaven

Yes. School just ended. Get over it. Time to start thinking Back To School. The Penny Jam was an idea I had after I saw the kids at a Catholic elementary school in Chicago raise $40,000 in pennies to re-roof their gym. Basically the school that collects the most pennies gets a concert. You either funnel the pennies back into each individual school (they all have different, but dire, financial needs) or you put it toward a good vibing charity that the kids will care about. Now would be the time to start soliciting for an act.

Speaking of pennies, KDWB in Minneapolis once raised close to $10,000 in the little copper slugs by driving the Penny Pickup around town and having people lob their spare change in it, following a tornado that decimated a northern suburb and killed a toddler. In ANY economy, it's hard to get people to write a check. But spare change? Hell. Everyone has it lying around. "It's not like it's really money..."

Band Together

One of the stations has a show with multiple artists coming in and they pretty much can do with them, what they want. What does everyone of those guys/girls in those bands probably have in common? They were in a school music program. And for a lot of kids, it's prohibitively expensive to buy/rent an instrument so they can participate. So what if you did "Band Together" and solicited donations of used instruments from listeners, that will then be distributed to needy kids. I can NOT see a band saying "NO, we won't help."

ANY time you can get the female listeners hanging and bonding, it's huge. The Beat in Vancouver did a plane of them to Vegas for a night under the umbrella Girls Night Out. 'DVD in Detroit did an NKOTB Slumber Party. 30 women and the morning show. Limo to/from the show and then an allnight party in a hotel. Doesn't get bigger then that.
