The Cups Runneth Over
A station-to-remain-nameless has passes to a golf tournament. Playing off "Cup", my suggestion (and gosh darn it if they're not going to do it) is to have four or five photos of interns in their bras. ID each of the cup sizes and win tickets.
The Art Of Going Viral
When you have something like, say, Bieber tickets, it's not surprising that you can create some hoopla. This is from Nathan Fast at Kiss in Boise and make sure to click on his link. For a few minutes he and the station were the number two, three and four trendings in another freaking market:
I tried something out & wanted to share because the results were pretty interesting and might be able to spark a better idea down the road.
We ended our Bieber promotion and went straight into our "Over-Exposed Weekend" at 5p with Boise Music Festival tickets & advanced copies of Maroon 5's new album. Just for kicks, I offered a "bonus" Twitter-only contest as a last chance to get in on our Bieber tickets, only teasing it a few times throughout my show.
It exploded and within an hour, I was getting messages from LA, NY, and even overseas. I know for a fact that we had people (in and out of market) sitting at their computers - with their radios on 103.3 KISS-FM - listening & tweeting #1033kissfm as fast as their fingers could type ALL NIGHT. I can't attest to this translating into gaudy ratings or revenue, but it did generate thousands and THOUSANDS of impressions FOR FREE. I mean, if you're into that type of thing...especially in the last week of a book.
Bottom line: Don't underestimate the power of a battalion of crazy Beliebers armed with Internet access, cell phone plans with unlimited text messaging, and a lot of free time.
How To Break The Internet...or at least give Twitter the hiccups for a few minutes:
