Boom
That was the sound of two clusters going head to head at the Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw show a few weeks ago in Minneapolis.
It wasn't just 40,000 people at a music event, it was also the first concert at Target Field, it was downtown, it's Minneapolis and it's the Summer. This was a major media event and it was refreshing to see that the Art of Butt Kicking has not been bred out of our DNA yet.
I can't speak for the competition in this battle but they DID bring a banner tow, a giant remote vehicle, street teamers marching around with giant heads on poles, a crap load of banners and, this is cool: they sponsored all the Pedicabs downtown, which was great and mobile signage.
K-102? Matt Tell did a GREAT job of going down for a site check and then working together a battle plan based on what he had so there was maximum strategic use of the weaponry. There were digital boards on 94 from the east and west welcoming people to the show. He went to CC outdoor and got the sheet for a board which was then mounted on poles and marched around downtown by interns.
And a first: street teamers holding sparklers at all the exits, personally thanking people for "coming to our show". I'm attaching some pics and also a checklist from Chris Turner at KSON in San Diego. This is from the brooding and swarthy Mr. Tell:
Sidewalk chalk logos all over downtown
Logo'd beach balls
St. Cloud State Cheerleaders wearing K102 on Plaza
22 Line dancers in logo
Hiway billboard sign turned into 28' roving banner.
4 pre-show bar gigs + party bus to venue. Sand bar passes & Meet & Greets
1 live broadcast
1 after party w/ live music
2 stage intros from staff
Roll banner galore
A pair of Front Row tickets for scavenger hunt before the show downtown
K102 Tattoos
4 K102 vehicles w/ audio downtown 1-circling and 2 playing music, 2 have Chesney on the side for pictures.
61 people in custom printed shirts
Ticket upgrades inside Target Field during the show
Facebook and Twitter coverage like a blanket
Bullhorn on Twins Plaza
Sandwich board signs
And of course beautiful Digital Billboard advertising that topped it all off. -
