The Best Facebook Post Of 2012
It had nothing do with celebrity stupidity. It wasn't a rehash of a music event from a week ago. It wasn't generated by corporate. It was just nice, local and to the point. From Hot 100.5 in Norfolk:
We want to send a HOT SHOUT OUT to Princess Anne High School who won their first football game in FIVE YEARS on Friday night!! 21-0 over Kempsville.
I don't know why but that seems to just hit it. Not club spam. Not a reminder of appt. times.
Tomorrow
Googlizing is up at AMP in Detroit. http://987ampradio.cbslocal.com
Wild in SFO and Jamz in Birmingham did memorials with luminaries and empty shoes in 2002. One of the stations did it with a field of US flags on poles. 3000 of them.
I lobbed the shoe suggestion out on Friday and proving again that this is Rocket Science, US 93 in Ft. Wayne has it up and running today. This WILL get TV coverage and will be "visual" for all the local TV shots and lead ins. "Where were you?" on Facebook is fine and you should do it but Bob from TV 5's Action News can't shoot that. http://www.facebook.com/US933
Marco...Polo!
So far we've been able to bastardize a good number of games normally reserved for birthday parties in 4th grade.
I truly believe the next logical extension of Fugitive will be a market-wide game of Tag. You go around tagging people until you tag the right one.
Wild in Tampa did Musical Chairs for a Grammy Trip. KDWB did it for a Superbowl trip ( http://www.cpr-promotions.com/kdwb_largest_game.htm )and KKMG in Colorado Springs did it for a car. Power in Miami just did it. Huge.
Way before the movie came out, one of the Wild's did a major charity dodgeball tourney to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs.
Twister? Gods gift to morning shows and club appearances.
I've yet to see a station do Marco Polo either on a football field or in a pool. Blindfolded and flailing around trying to touch chanting interns to win tickets.
And a station-to-remain-nameless has some tickets to Kelly Clarkson. The idea? "Since You've Been Gone...At Work". While a listener is at work, the station would hide tickets in their house. When they get home they'll have a dial position number of seconds to find them aided only by the morning person coaching them with "warmer", "colder", "really cold", "getting warmer", etc.
