"Things You Crash" For $500, Alex
As a frequent resident of hotels, I've found myself in the position to infiltrate and liberate libations from parties that I have no connection to. The sales asst. from KSFM and I hit three office Christmas parties in one night at the Sacramento Hilton. I got into the competition's auditorium test at the hotel in San Antonio. I've hit the free bar at countless wedding receptions and a few weeks ago crashed my first class reunion.
When "Wedding Crashers" came out, a dozen of the morning shows went and tried this with hidden lapel cams. It was fun and topical.
Trending awhile go was that that crazy little talented ferret Taylor Swift may have crashed a Kennedy nuptial. Kudos and accolades to The Bubba Show at Star in Pittsburgh for being the first "on" this in terms of doing something more then posting link or covering it in Dirty On The :30's. http://starpittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2012/08/24/exclusive-bubba-show-wedding-crashers
Video of them entering, cake cutting, doing the Electric Slide and the couple's first dance will be up on Monday.
Rethinking "Cash"
We're the industry that has so dumbed down and chlorinated "giving stuff to people" that only a fringe segment will participate.
Cash buys winner promos. That's the true value of contesting.
And we're in the communications business. So instead of winning a $3000 gas gift card (seriously? gift card?), Newcap in Edmonton said "Win gas for a year!". Phones exploded. Which ignited the gas and dozens perished.
So, somewhere, a Country station is taking $600 and presenting it as "school lunches for your kid for the entire school year". Phones WILL explode and children will die.
