An Actual Watch & Win That Works

"Watch & Win" as traditionally done by the networks usually involves telling the listeners to turn off their radio at 7:30 and watch an episode of some truly awful and forgettable show like "Homeboys From Outer Space" and then calling in the next day to win a prizepack of a medium "H.F.O.S." t-shirt and a logoed CW mousepad.

Which is why a lot of GM's refuse to do them. There's no Programming value.

Jerry McKenna who is now at KLUC had one of those situations with the Billboard Awards when he was at KSFM. A decent buy and ten trips over two weeks. But he said no. Not until there was a VALID reason to ask his audience to NOT listen to the radio. So...we turned did a secret song

Everynight during some Fox program at a promoted appt. time, Davey & Chris popped up, said hi and announced a song that would play ONCE the next day. That was the cue. Hear it and be caller 102 and go to Las Vegas. This song was not promoted any other way.

• You have to watch their TV show to play, which is all they want
• And you have to listen to the station to win, which is what we want

What a concept. Kiss in Charlotte, KDWB in Minneapolis and KOB-FM in Albuquerque have done that with on-line content and a chance to meet Miranda Cosgrove when she came through town. iKiss or whatever. Watch a video of Dave Ryan doing something new and stupid each day and then call and win.

Hot in Ft. Wayne has an on-going video series called "The Station" that is a Radio version of "The Office". And they has a trip for one winner to see 1D on five consecutive nights. Which is almost as good as a "Boy Meets World" Prize Pack. From Phil Becker:
