Butch For Bieber
If "Dads In Drag" didn't work, Radio wouldn't have been doing it since 1966. But no one has ever done the opposite. Until now. One of the stations is going to do an on-site at the venue for meet and greets with moms dressing up as Bieber. I don't know, maybe it was the 7 years in a Peruvian prison but this is kind of hot.
Principal For A Day
When he was at NOU in Indy, Rayne did a School Spirit contest where one school won some D List artist named Dustin Jeeber or something like that, as their Principal For A Day. My understanding was that it did "all right" and that the ability to text in central Indiana has recently returned. He just did it again but this time with Austin Mahone http://987ampradio.cbslocal.com/2012/10/16/austin-mahone-performs-say-something
This is his recap of the Indianapolis promotion: We did a ten day text message-based high school spirit contest. I site surveyed the top three schools before the contest ended and came up with an execution plan for all three, seeing as there wasn't a declared winner yet. We announced the winner during the morning show after the text window closed.
I sent in the morning show team immediately after their show the day of the event to run around in the school, have lunch with kids and host the event. Justin Beiber did interviews with the newspaper and yearbook staff after his performance in the school's auditorium in lieu of any sort of meet & greet situation. He played 3-5 songs, talked to the kids in the audience and everything went off without a hitch...well, except for our text messaging system; it crashed a few times due to the high volume of text messages.
Tweet To Your Seat
A few of the stations have done this. Very simple; you send out tweets in ten minute intervals that eventually lead listeners to someone who has a pair of tickets. That was easy. The payoff, at least at WPGC in DC, was the video of the people going crazy when they asked the right person. Not something you get with VIP Clubs normally.
KDWB, Q in Memphis and Kiss in Charlotte have done it as "Follow The Directions To One Direction". And it was HUGE. Clues/directions to follow at appt. times.
Hot in Houston did it in the afternoons every day as Bieber Bandit. http://hothits957.cbslocal.com/2012/10/17/find-the-hot-bieber-bandit-win-101712
