Jail: Always Comedy Gold
Karson and Kennedy are at Mix in Boston and doing fantastic. When they were at Q-107.5 in Memphis they used Country Cory for a funny bit. They would send him down to the courthouse (at 201 Poplar) to interview people in the morning as they get out of jail. It was called "What You Doing In The 201" and it was FUNNY. But then, I think that still-drunk hookers who have just bonded out are funny.
Since then they've brought it to Boston and a lot of other stations have picked up on it. Killer bit. Sometimes with real killers.
Winning Because, Well, You're Special
Back before Granham tanked it, 100.3 Jamz in Dallas was massive. Huge. Clifton got them doing a non-traditional contest that was a homerun for them. Q in Philly did this for awhile back when we consulted them: just take random callers and award them prizes. No annoying pre-sell. Just take a caller, congratulate them and give them a prize. Special Ed at Wild 94.1 in Tampa put together something similar for the people in the database: "Just letting u know that I have now started creating a Freakshow listener database that has peoples full name, address, phone number, and e.mail......
From this list, I randomly send out a prize pack with tshirts, dvds, cds, etc....THANKING them for listening to the show. I've also linked up with dunkin donuts and now deliver a couple of dozen donuts to their homes and jobs.......trying to make them feel as special and connected to the show/station as possible...."
A Backdrop That Will Draw A Crowd
http://www.monstermural.com/ is the link courtesy of Jackie Linn at Pamal in Pensacola. They got the attached artwork down and this will be there signage at large summer festivals, fairs, concerts and events. From Jackie: I used it at another station and it was amazing. Kids flock to it to paint or color with markers They have all kinds and sizes but I got a tarp that washes off so it can be re-used. They will also incorporate your town, landmarks, animals, people, whatever you want...(well probably not strippers or anything), but almost anything you want into the mural. The best part, its getting it paid for by a sponsor. Like for us (Nemours Children's Clinic.) Here's ours that they created. The logos stay in color, the rest of the mural is where the kids color. I can't wait to get it out at events!
