Great Moments In Concert Ownership
94.9 in San Diego had MUSE and Kiss in Phoenix had Gaga a few weeks ago. Since most stations will send their 2013 version of The Mastercruiser to the venue at 5 pm, and that's it, the planning that went into these nights is inspiring.
How do you win? Bodies and signage off-site.
Here are their recaps. First from Ciro Sepulveda:
We outnumbered every station there by 10-1. No kidding. To quote Woods " It wasn't even close. We won the game by 5 touchdowns."
We had a stage set up with 2 tents and a huge area were listeners hung out and had a last chance at MUSE Tickets at Chili's right next door to the venue (literally, we were the first thing people saw as they drove in to park at the Sports Arena). Had another booth at the venue were people got a chance to take their commemorative picture with Matt Bellamy. We had Woodsie, Hilary and the promo crew (Nick and Me) ride around in Segways talking to people getting listener audio and basically driving by their booth rubbing it in their nose. We had a flay guys and a gobo light shinning off of a big wall in plain sight of people driving into the venue. We had, literally, an army of promo people, interns, promosapien and on air staff (overall around 20 people) all over the place with signs, flyers, stickers, etc. engaging listeners. We had 4 vehicles strategically placed at key spots, first thing people saw coming in and out.
They had ONE tent (which was located in a spot where people could not even access, Weird!), Their Bus with their on air jocks inside and kept away from any interaction with people and they had maybe 4 promo people total trying to scramble around and do last minute efforts to attack us. Their dirty tactic of Shining a gobo light directly on our gobo light was sub par and did not pay off as it did not really look good and it just highlighted our logo even better. Plus we had 4 interns wave a huge sign and flags in front of it to block their light.
The best part of it all was when a concert goer told us "Hey aren't you guys pissed that the other station is crashing your show?" "To which we responded "No, we're fair and not selfish, we'll let them have a space in this too"
Still need to update with the better ones from the broadcast when a huge crowd of people we're hanging at our broadcast waiting for MUSE tix and the pics from the Holiday Hootenanny.

And then from Carina at Kiss in Phoenix:
We had an amazing set-up, sounded great on-air and utilized a lot of your helpful tips to dominate on-site.
The KISS FM Street Team (interns) and I went out on Tuesday and bannered about 6 blocks around the venue. We also bannered every parking structure across from the venue. We had huge banners hanging from the KISS FM Official Lady Gaga After party Venue that was across the street from the arena.
We had our show car with sound system and TV screen with rolling KISS FM Video, KISS Tent, huge stage, black lights, 5 Plasma TVs with LIVE Instagram feed from listener photos on-site, KISS Girls and Boys with large signs, handing out lanyards, after party passes, stickers, social media cards.
We also had a team walking around with a special QR code (photo attached) that took people directly to our Facebook page and our VIP page to have people sign up. We had our KISS FM cold air balloon out on the street corner of the venue as well.
We had our morning show team on-site, Mid-Day jock spinning live, and several different drag show performances from the best Drag's in the valley. We also had a live performance from National Recording Artist Chris Wallace (his single: Remember When).
We gave away Floor seats, and autographed Lady Gaga book, and specially made Lady Gaga Lanyards as well as VIP KISS FM Official Lady Gaga After party passes.
Our host was incredible. Let's just say our host upset one of the most well known local jocks in Phoenix. And this girl has never set foot in a radio station.
My staff and I handmade custom KISS FM/lady gaga shirts for less than $100. We made a stencil out of our logo, bought cheap t-shirts and spray painted them. Everyone looked great.
We also had a face painter on-site who did everyone's makeup like Lady Gaga.
Last but not least, one of my KISS girls who went inside the show text me and said P!nk and her entire band were sitting behind them. So she ran up and photo bombed them and got us an exclusive photo that we posted all over our social media. This photo was so big that we royally upset Live Nation.
