More Facebook Storm Totals
Apparently there have been some winter storms this year. I'm all caught up in a "Client List" marathon on Telemundo so a lot of this is new to me.
Following Nemo 'BMW in New London added 1000 fans on Saturday alone. 25% increase in a day. The station in New Minas went up 400 fans on Saturday. Possible proof that during storms, people camp out on FB. This is a nice recap from the VP up north:
Guys - great work this weekend!
At stations all across Eastern Canada, we did amazing work on both a community service and listener entertainment level.
On-air and on-line, our stations various storm watch efforts were, from all I heard, excellent. We were live
and local when many of our competitors were voice tracked.
Many stations turned the storm into entertainment value. FRED-FM/Fredericton and K-ROCK/Kentville both did over/under contests with the predicted snowfall amounts. K-ROCK gave away a snowblower this morning to someone who correctly guessed "over" on the 35cm of forecast snow.
Q104/Halifax has their street team out doing "snow jobs" this morning, shovelling driveways for listeners. It didn't take huge budget or a six-hour brainstorming meeting, and it sounded 100% on top of the market's vibe as we were digging out from 30+cm of snow.
HOT 105-5/Charlottetown invited listeners to send in pictures of the storm from their location in order to win prizes. The photos were all over Facebook this weekend as listeners got creative to capture the storm in unique ways and places.
The lesson is simple: It doesn't take overwhelming amounts of money or effort to reflect the mood of your market. When something (anything!) is happening that people are talking about it, your job is to reflect it in a way that only your station can.
Ex's
You can never go wrong with ex's, in fact, if you have the Taylor Swift flyaway to Dallas, reach out to me. I gots a bit. In the meantime, one of the morning shows is interviewing all of their ex's who will explain why the guys and the female co-host are essentially undateable.
At AMP in Calgary they spoke with Katie's ex who said: she hit him when they broke up and when asked if her 'performance' was any good... he said 'she just used to stare at the same spot on the ceiling'
