Promotion Of The Year
For the uninitiated Canadian Music Week is pretty large. 1000 bands over six days plus a Radio conference that pretty much has broadcasters from every country in the world. It's mammoth.
So, it's pretty freaking cool that amidst all of this 90.3 AMP-FM in Calgary won "Promotion Of The Year". And equal credit must go to the Sales staff that put together a $300,000 grand prize for the promotion. Five couples were chosen based on standard reality tv criteria like how well they sounded, how much they would grate on other couples, how "out there" they could be...and then the wives were all swapped off to other partners.
One "couple" was picked after two weeks, a divorce lawyer was brought in and they had thirty minutes to divvy up the prizes before returning to their respective spouses.
It's not a VIP Club, but then, what is?
They rolled from this into an RV of listeners that drove 45 hours to a Pink show in Miami, kicking people out along the way and sticking them on a Greyhound home, and from that, have rolled into this promotion that will have people living in pink body suits to win tickets and $10,000. http://www.ampradiocalgary.com/index.asp?id=1117&mn=11&cc=1
Alphabet Jams
Done at KSFM in Sacramento where they played a version of Wheel Of Fortune on the air, giving out a letter every hour and taking a guess as to what the name or phrase was, until someone could put the pieces together and get it right for $1000. Like the "$10,000 Superstars", or any kind of Scrambled Jams bit, I like it because it forces people to track the guesses if they want to play and win.
The Prize You'd Kill For
Another contest from the Great White North, this promotion offers a trip or front row tickets or something equally large to the winner of a giant paintball battle.
