Backyard Barbecues
These are great prizes for the summer. One of the stations did Backyard Boogies last year. Station and artist show up and do food and a concert in a listeners' backyard. The contesting was pretty bleh. Win a prize and qualify. What if you do something based on pissing off the neighbors? Power 96 in Miami just did Beat The Meat and you earned cash and bailed before a brat exploded. Station-to-remain-nameless is doing aprons that say "(Station) Beat My Meat". You could also do Back To Back To Your Backyard. When two songs play in order, dial position caller gets the party.
Facebook Juice
Kudos to Tone Hollywood at Hot 98.1 in Greenville where he spotted a story about a local girl who is being denied the right to walk in her graduation today because she was late to practice. (She was taking her ill sister to an awards ceremony because her mother was working).
In a couple of hours they got 7220 likes and 1108 shares with a few hours to go. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151613818099454&set=a.185660914453.122776.58275314453&type=1&relevant_count=1
Good for Monday mornings? I've been watching a guy from Now in Sacramento get a great response to "Describe your weekend in five words".
If you have not seen this video about Social Media and Radio, they nailed it.
Thanks to Phil Becker at Oasis in Ft. Wayne for the share.
Future Olin Mills Photogs On Your Street Team
You really want to constantly update pics from the streets this summer. The kids should never go out without:
- Letting the announcer know where they're going.
- Doing a vibe call.
- Bringing back pics.
Dave Ryan did Boat Patrol last summer at KDWB. It was an exercise in Rocket Science. He went out on his boat, brought some promo kids, did a couple of calls and got some shots with huge numbers of listeners living the Minnesota lifestyle out on the lakes.
Some stations do a better job at getting photos for the website. Why? Because usually they do a quick 30 minute class with the street team. Not just showing them HOW to take pics, but what they're looking for.
