Heat & Tweet
Wild in SFO did something that was pretty cool when they went and paid for community pool admissions on days where it topped 94.9. Just a good excuse to hit San Jose and market the station for a relatively low cost. (I think it was like $2 a person). Jamz in Vegas did it with baseball tickets to their minor league team; temp hit 94.1 and they opened up the phones and blew out tickets. KLUC has done something similar with water park passes.
So what if you did it with tweeting. Take a photo of an intern sitting on a chair in the parking lot with a big gulp, an old school mercury thermometer and an iphone. Every time the temp edges up a degree, he tweets the new temperature. When he finally tweets your dial position, that's the cue to call in. The first 102 (or whatever) people to get through and say "Damn it's hot, hook me up!" would get something like water park tickets or movie passes.
Morning Show Bootcamp
A reminder that if you're going to Chicago, let me know and I'll try to coordinate some ground transportation so a bunch of us can get to and from the airport on my tab. I plan to get in early afternoon on the 7th and will be splitting for an airport hotel late afternoon on the 9th but can easily get you dropped off at the terminal. Newest addition to the roster is Chet Buchanan who will be diverting on his way to the Bahamas where he will be hosting the Miss Teen USA competition. And now yet another reason to seriously hate him.
NSA
It still has some "legs". For a midday contest, have listeners eavesdrop on their coworkers and call in to spill what they heard for prizes. Wild in Tampa once did it as a "Spy On Your Neighbors Weekend". Same concept: look into your neighbor's yard and report what you see.
AMP in Boston monitored the competition's phone calls and included the audio in their imaging for the Birthday Bash.
The Sounds Of Summer, Part II
Cities 97 in Minneapolis has always done an outstanding job of "sounding" like the Twin Cities. Oake On The Water shows could be nowhere other than here. It's not a remote; it's a show. From a lakeside bar on a sunny Thursday afternoon.
So it's no surprise that Lauren Macleash also PD's KOOL 108 and they're kicking off 80's Patio Parties on Saturday nights. It's so simple and it's so freaking Twin Cities. Every Saturday night they're out at a different bar patio with music and bartabs and food and prizes and when you listen, "Minnesota" will just puke all over you.
