One Second Cinema
I love the name. From a morning show that wishes to remain nameless. You play one second of a movie. Call and ID it and win.
The Best On-Site, Front Row Contest Yet
I found the link and it's still working, from The Wolf in Seattle, The Running Of The Balls
Morning Show Endorsements
I saw a great Tommy Kramer spiel on jock endorsements. As he said, "When a DJ refers to 'my friends at...' the audience knows that what you really mean is 'my friends at (client) who are paying me to say this...'."
Which is why The Mommy Bloggers at Hot Hits 95.7 in Houston was a homerun. Instead of having a DJ drive around a car and rave about it, five women have gotten cars for the summer and are raving about it/them. Actual people.
Radiowave 96.7 in Windhoek (possessors of the coolest logo in Radio) have one of the local beers coming to them with a new Weis that's about to debut. They'd like the morning show to drink it the morning it debuts. Which is about a "4".
You have all of these third shift workers listening to you on the way home. When you have somebody who wants the morning show to sample and rave, invite in an audience and have a Really Premature Happy Hour. McDonalds biscuits. Wendy's French toast. Or even beer.
Back To The Whole "Semblance Of Activity" Thing
Last Summer I did Street School at 'KLH in Milwaukee. A few weeks later this got sent from the midday person to corporate.:
I had the pleasure of working for the first time yesterday with Amelia and Alyssa. (Hope I spelled their names correctly.) Since it was Monday at State Fair, it was kind of slow and we weren't getting many people stopping by the 'KLH sound stage. THAT situation changed because of Amelia's creative thinking!
While I was busy with my show, I overheard Amelia telling Alyssa that she wanted to come up with a fun way to get more people to stop by and register to win the lawnmower...and make their short visit with us fun and memorable and in a family-friendly way. The two girls chatted about this for a bit - I didn't hear the specifics of the conversation since I was focused on my broadcast - and then Amelia asked me if it was okay for here to leave the booth for a few minutes as she and Alyssa had come up with their plan.
A short time later, these girls had turned the front of the 'KLH sound stage from "just another radio station" into a super-fun, colorful must-stop! They invented a game called "'KLH Pong" that anyone could play, they had little tattoos for kids and had a constant stream of little bubbles blowing around. It was the coolest thing!!! Amelia and Alyssa were great with the MANY people who were now stopping by - really interacting with our listeners, not just saying the usual stuff that they're supposed to say. To say that I was "impressed" is a major understatement!!!
