Kidd Kraddick
There really is no "right answer" but in terms of dealing with the passing of one of the air staff, Jackie Donovan at Pamal in Glens Falls:
When Rick Knight died if a heart attack a little over a year ago, I assembled everyone who worked with him over 35 plus years and I moderated in the studio as they told stories. We had Kate in the Froggy studio just roll tape in calls and we laid them over music for 6 hours
According to my attorney "nothing got done that morning as my girls were in tears"
Lesson: keep an updated list of phone numbers for everyone and keep audio
A Pool Pool
Hot in Houston had a trip to Las Vegas for SPF (Summer Pool Fever) with Robin Thicke, so they did a version of the World's Easiest Contest, also known as Power Blast at Power in Miami, and Ticket Blast at KDWB in The Twin Cities and KAJA in San Antonio. They opened up the phones in 20 minute increments when a lifeguard blew a whistle, and if you got through, you were in the pool. One winner was picked at the end of the week. And they encouraged people to jump in the pool as often as they could.
Squeezeathon
94/9 in San Diego decided that if they were going to do an afternoon 'thon to raise money for pediatric cancer research, why not sell lemonade? That's what kids have been doing for 100 years, so they opened up Alex's lemonade stand and raised $14,000 in a few hours. Win.
Photobombs
Back before anyone knew what that term meant, John Hines at K-102 in Minneapolis had a photo of himself in a wifebeater shirt, cringing as if someone had just let off a firecracker behind him. For no reason other than to be stupid, he photoshopped the pic into the crash of the Hindenberg, at Lincoln's inaugural, on Mt Suribachi...it was funny.
So I spotted a label guy on FB who is doing the same thing with a photo of himself dashing across the street. He was just at the debut of the new prince in London.
