Congrats!

Big news at Newcap where they acquired clusters in Toronto and Vancouver a few weeks ago, which would be the US equivalent of Townsquare picking up clusters in New York and LA.

They also flipped 96.5 in Halifax to a very cool AAA format and of course, the old audience loves the change. From VP/Steve Jones:

"Steve Jones, you are an (bad word). I hope your 96.5 fails as a radio station. You are a pecker head". That is my favourite comment so far. My second favourite was from the guy who referred to our format decision as one made by an "uneducated dicusting higherarchie". He would have been my favourite except that he didn't refer to me by name and failed to work in the word "pecker head".

Things Every Morning Show Should Have Access To

A truck. Like a semi. Because there will be mornings when you will need one and you'll need it in the parking lot at Target and you'll need it right away.

A handwriting expert. Seriously. I worked with a jock who was trained by the army as a graphologist. Whenever a celeb would come through he'd get an autograph for "a listener" and the next day would analyze it. Fun to listen to but GREAT digital content. Have listeners submit samples from fiancees, future in laws, employers...

You would seriously have to try to screw up any kind of web contest that involves kids or pets for it to fail. They're the two universals. So it's not surprising the number of entries and the lengths that the contestants are going to to get friends to vote/market the station.
