High School Football
Quite a few of you have cheerleaders in-studio. If you don't, Hot 98.1 in Greenville has doing Trash Talk Thursdays, which is an open forum on the night show for kids to bag on rival schools. Power in Miami has done the Spodcaster bit. And Jeff Anderson from R1 in Richmond shares:
We definitely pulled together the tailgate takeova. We even got Excel to sponsor and provide free cell phones for the HS Correspondents. They have Team captains and Cheerleaders come in to host the countdown as well. Our night guys are dead on it. This is the first year we've done it so there's lots of growth to go but Friday night Football is going good. We've also locked down a Monday night football spot where the night guys do their show. It really captures a great vibe.
Bustin' Makes Me Feel Good
"Where do we find a good local haunt?" came up in a call last week. Again, there is no better source then www.shadowlands.com
Why? Because It's Your "Visual"
The reason we don't get as much TV and print coverage as we'd like is that we think like Radio People. We don't think like a TV cameraman or press photog. Would you rather shoot a picture of a barrel in a grocery store and a DJ sitting behind a table begging for food, or shoot something like this. www.canstruction.com If you can't book them for this Thanksgiving, there's still time to get a school arts department to do the work for you.
Turkey Drop
Got a station that is looking at doing that. Remember, you want your initial teasing and selling of it to be vague enough that PETA fans go nuts. Obviously we're dropping fake turkeys that are good for a frozen bird. Helicopters are your last choice. Hot air balloon or plane are better. You want whatever you're dropping to have enough weight to it that it falls fairly straight down, despite wind or prop wash. But not so heavy that it impales itself in the cranium of a six year-old. Testing is seriously recommended. Over beers I'll tell you about the Power 106/LA helicopter drop where the rotor wash blew the paper turkeys over a fence and into a school yard full of children on recess.
