Breaking Dad
One of the cliché Fathers Day morning show features is Freak Out Your Father where you get a listener, conference them with the unsuspecting dad, and they have 60 seconds to make him lose his temper to win. The best version of that was done by B-95 in Fresno where twin 19 y/o sisters called their dad to proudly announce their million dollar deal to do a girl-on-girl pictorial with Penthouse. He was crying about 15 seconds into the call.
"Breaking Dad" is almost too easy.
Halloween Content
Great radio stations usually have one thing or one element that they do better than anyone else. Mix 96 in San Antonio has Russell Rush and his claim to greatness is that he makes ridiculously good, Emmy winning (I'm serious) videos. His Halloween stuff is off the chart www.therussellrushhauntedtour.com
That should almost be your goal or litmus test for whatever you create next month. It's a lofty aspiration but you obviously want to do something more for Halloween than a pet costume contest, and as witnessed by the variety of paranormal programming in TV, people love this stuff.
Most morning shows will just open up the phones and find a listener who has a haunted home or condo or workplace, but this list is just as good http://theshadowlands.net/places/
Another Dave Ryan First
I think Verinder, the middle eastern convenience store clerk who Wild 94.1 in SFO ordained, was the first radio person to officiate a same sex marriage.
Hot in Ottawa beat the heritage CHR in less than a year and their first big nail in the other station's coffin was when they married the two gay men from "Amazing Race" in a ceremony in front of thousands of people downtown.
With Minnesota legalizing same sex marriage two months ago, Dave Ryan from KDWB was the first talent in town to host a wedding http://daveryanshow.iheart.com/articles/dave-ryan-show-latest-336979/live-updates-radios-first-gay-wedding-11663112/
As you would expect, not everyone likes this and Rich Davis got every kind of complaint imagineable. Good. In 2013 there are stations that would have pulled the plug on this after one call.
Kudos. Congrats. Mazel.
