The Mile Of Meet
This is something that Ben-FM in Philly does every year and sadly, in 2013, it only got coverage on four TV stations. Dang.
It's fairly simple:
- At 7:45pm, BEN-FM will line up a mile of eligible bachelors on Main St. in Manayunk. IF IT RAINS - The entire event, including the lineup or 'mile of men' will take place inside. Each bachelor will be holding a number. Single women will be able to walk down the street and "man shop", jotting down the numbers of the men they are interested in on their 'shopping list'.
- At 8:15p, everyone heads inside to mix and mingle. The women can approach any man that they wrote down on their 'shopping list' or ask for help making an introduction through one of the many BEN-FM Icebreakers in attendance . Icebreakers are BEN staffers that will help a guy or girl make the initial introduction to someone they are interested in meeting.
Last year they had Craig Robinson from "The Bachelorette" and Amy Laurent from Bravo's "Miss Advised" as well one of the Philadelphia Wings lacrosse players that a woman could win a date with.
The Cheapest Valentines
One of my favorite weekend contests as always been The Cheap Date Weekend. You win whatever movie tickets you have, a brown lunch bag of pre-popped pop corn, some fast food gift cards and bus fare.
One of the stations is looking at doing a Convenience Store Valentines and giving out assortments of really cheap stuff purchased at a Kwik E Mart.
Back when Jeff & Jerr signed the first million dollar contract in San Diego (or some obscene amount) Z-90 did The Cheapest Morning Show in San Diego. Every morning there was a different product/service/experience and the listener who tipped them to the least expensive provider of said "thing" got it paid for. IE: "Today's cheapest breakfast in San Diego goes to Paige in National City who tips us to the 59 cent breakfast burrito at the Chevron at exit 3. Paige, come down and collect your 59 cents." You could do that with the cheapest Valentines Date in (market).
Alternative Idols
In 2014 it's becoming really hard to be excited about Idol, so we need to find other ways to talk about it.
The Beat in Vancouver did "Rollercoaster Karaokeeeeeee...". Strapped a minidisk to listeners and had them sing on a coaster. They did the same thing with listeners riding mechanical bulls. There ya go. Coaster Idol.
