Our Logo On Your Meat
A station-to-remain-nameless has a steakhouse client that wants a promotion. My suggestion would be to have a station 'cut of meat' with the station logo actually branded into it. A dial position number of cents from each steak sold would go to a food shelf.
For All Your Furniture Needs!
I was at Canadian Music Week in Toronto a couple of years ago (imagine every music and Radio convention rolled into one: it's large) and was hanging in a buffalo stance with Dave Derocco from Y-108 in Hamilton. We were stealing ideas off each other and one of his that I liberated and brought south (in a condom in my colon) across the border is something called The Casting Couch. Basically it's a fishing casting contest that sends someone home with a new couch. The next time you have a furniture store that needs an idea, here ya go.
Or...
Got a mattress or waterbed to give away? Then do "You Snooze You Lose". Stick four listeners on a bed and the last person to fall asleep wins the mattress plus a trip to Las Vegas; the city that doesn't sleep.
Vehicular Management 101
I've always espoused that Street Level Marketing is more then just giving some intern the keys to the van and then sending them out to drive around aimlessly. When done successfully, Street Level Marketing is strategic. It's about knowing where the audience is and going out to meet them. In fact, I've got a great manual for Street General that I'll share with whoever can tell me who tempted Kevin in French Class on "The Wonder Years". And yes, I am in fact a geek.
Back-in-the-day (actually, it was closer to dusk) I was at a friend's Super Bowl party making small talk with various co-workers and neighbors of my highschool buddies. One of them heard that I worked at WLOL and commented that our van was in their apartment parking lot every afternoon. Huh? Seems Mark was having himself a booty call while he was allegedly out prowling the streets, meeting listeners. Actually, I think he was meating a listener.
One of the CPR clients' Marketing Directors has similar concerns. In a major market, with a lot of room to cover and with four vehicles and a staff to do it, he's installed GPS units in the vehicles. He programs them to specific zip codes. If the vehicles stray, he gets an automatic page telling him. Brilliant.
