More Sumbrellas
One of the stations is going to do the Selfie Summer theme and have a big backdrop at events for Instagramming hashtagged Selfies. I love this frame that JACK in Buffalo has used for photo taking during the summer.
Another station is going to do "The (Dial Position) Things To Do This Summer" Summer and make it all about the gazillion things that market offers for recreation, with accompanying tickets. Kind of like the Summer of 10,000 Tickets.
iPads In Space
Attack Of The iPads IV: iPads In Space is in full effect as the kids like to say at 94/9 in San Diego. This is the latest promotional vid for the contest:
Future Olin Mills Photogs On Your Street Team
You really want to constantly update pics from the streets this summer. The kids should never go out without:
- Letting the announcer know where they're going.
- Doing a vibe call.
- Bringing back pics.
Dave Ryan did Boat Patrol last summer at KDWB. It was an exercise in Rocket Science. He went out on his boat, brought some promo kids, did a couple of calls and got some shots with huge numbers of listeners living the Minnesota lifestyle out on the lakes.
Some stations do a better job at getting photos for the website. Why? Because usually they do a quick 30 minute class with the street team. Not just showing them HOW to take pics, but what they're looking for.
How To Get Eyes On Your Social Media
A couple of the night guys have created "crazy listeners" who have attacked them ruthlessly on Facebook...which of course creates some buzz and also gets their real listeners to rally behind them.
At KDWB, Steve-O made a disparaging comment about one of the NBC affiliate anchors. She tweeted him, he tweeted her, she insulted him, he insulted her...and I'm sure their numbers exploded.
'Padicure
If you have an iPad and a spa treatment, you now have a prize package.
Retweet With Fame
In the beginning, there was Brush With Fame. And it was good. Mancow did Poke With Fame and the winner was a young man in San Jose who claimed to have had relations with the actor who played Doogie Howser. This was in 1993. We scooped the world.
Since then I've seen stations do contests based on who got a Christmas card from the "biggest celebrity" and of course, the contest where listeners win by getting celebrities to call the morning show.
Everyone who is on Twitter is probably following a few stars. And we all will occasionally reply to something they tweeted. And very occasionally THEY will reply and for ten minutes we think we're the coolest people on the planet. And even MORE occasionally they will retweet something we sent them or commented on.
In the past few months I've gotten retweeted by Debra Messing, Andi Macdowell, Elizabeth Perkins, Amy Pietz (one of the funniest sidekick actresses ever) and the woman who played the mom on "The Sweet Life Of Zach & Cody. (Are you seeing a pattern in my social media?)
And there-in lies a contest. "Retweet With Fame". The listener who gets the "biggest celebrity" as judged by the morning show, wins. And they must include a station hashtag.
