This Weekend
In the states, it's the weekend before the 4th, so now is not too soon to throw a thematic weekend contest out there. A station-to-remain-nameless has concert tickets and they're going to play off the airstaff having gone on-line to buy discount fireworks from a small factory in Mexico. They're going to surprise the PD with a pyro show in his backyard on the 4th. So all this weekend they're testing shells and fuses in the parking lot. You win one ticket for each finger that the intern blows off.
Something For Sales
For the last couple of years there's been a glut of TV advertising for tech schools and other institutions reaching out to people who are either out of work or looking for a new, hopefully more stable/profitable career. What if you did a Back To School (Again) Career Fair? All the tech schools and community colleges and other programs with booth space in a mall or convention center. Maybe book a speaker or two. You could even get some financial institutions involved.
Progressive Signage
1. Signage draws people to your events and appearances. Doubt me? Do two of them back to back. One with 100 banners going for several blocks in all directions. Then do one with no signage and the vehicle parked back next to the client. Get back to me and tell me how it went.
2. Since most stations suck at signage, if you put a moderate effort into it, you'd win.
If Walt Disney was the inspiration for every little kid who wanted to grow up and have his own amusement park, then Wall Drug and Rock City were the visionaries for people who wanted to do nothing but grow up and create signage. http://www.seerockcity.com/Flash/Photos/barns.htm
FRED-FM has done progressive signage. Signage that spells out a phrase as you approach the location.
It could be something like
Slow down!
Hot 98.1
Is Only
300 Feet
Down
The Road!
Apply
Brake
...now
You just drive slowly down the block handing them to an intern who sticks them in the ground. Bannering is done in two minutes.
