The Short Bus Concert Series
One of the stations has a morning show pop-in from one of the past Idol contestants. I have no idea who he is. They all blurred together in about '06. One of those acts where the hook is better than they are. Q-102 in Cincy did Pennies From Heaven on short notice and gave a Catholic Girls School (pause, intentional) a lunchtime acoustic performance from David Archuletta.
One idea would be to get a company with a short bus or limo bus and take kids to school in it while they have a couple of songs played to them. Great name and something that you can now stick these ops in when they occur.
Can Jam
Pepsi, for one of their products, is pushing "green" and doing something with prom. A station-to-remain-nameless is going to do a version of the Can Jam. School that collects the most aluminum wins a DJ'ed prom from the station. When it's been done, they coordinated with the recycling center so that there were weekly collection events (remotes) where the students would bring down their bags of cans, totals were kept for each school and at the end of the whole thing, a check for all of the aluminum was presented to DARE.
The only time I ever saw this go south was when it was left to the students to go and do this on their own and bring in the receipts, and there wasn't a charity angle.
Cosmetic Surgery
You know what no station has ever done in conjunction with Tax Night? Given away plastic surgery. For people who REALLY want to keep a low profile after submitting their taxes. Or, if Taco Bell wants something, KUBE once had people make a run for the border on the 15th...and sent them to a Celine concert in Vancouver with a pre-concert dinner at The Bell.
