Bad News Ballad
A soon-to-be recurring feature at Mix in San Antonio where Russell Rush has discovered that bad news is best delivered in the form of a song. So he'll get bad news from a listener that they need passed along to a friend or family member, a local Idol contestant turns it into a 45 second song, and they call and it's performed/delivered.
In The Beginning, There Was Shock Collar Karaoke
These guys have tens of millions of youtube hits, so they clearly have stumbled on something when it comes to providing entertaining content and getting people to market them to friends and family.
Photo Booths
I think 'YCD in Detroit was one of the first stations I saw with an actual photo set up they'd take out to events. Technology has evolved dramatically so what you really need is less the technical end of it, but the aesthetic component. And few people build better visuals for events that Gino at Power in Miami with the ties and handcuffs. http://power96.cbslocal.com/photo-galleries/2015/02/17/power-96-fifty-shades-of-grey-movie-screening-2015
From the aforementioned Gino:
It's a piece of software called DSLR Booth (Windows or Mac) with a side app called fotoshare (Ipad only)
Go to their website and see how it works...
It is quite simple to use...it takes over your camera via usb and shoots everytime the guest presses a button (usb space bar trigger)
Once the pic is taken the software will add the template that you desire and it send to fotoshare on the ipad (only as long as they are on the same network)
If you purchase a surface touch screen you could bypass the whole ipad sharing station and have listeners send to their choice at the booth. I just think the line moves faster when you can go to another corner to send images.
What you need is a DSLR (check to see compatibility)
Some type of flash (I use a beauty dish on a regular studio flash)
I have cable and hotshoe so the flash triggers with camera.
A computer
An I pad
There is also a service you have to purchase at around $8 a month so that the ipad can send as SMS (ipad does not have phone number so this bypasses the fault)
I use the hotspot on my phone and it works pretty well...if you have a good wifi signal you can use that instead.
Then you have to figure out how to house all this gear in a case that is portable.
I have not tried it yet but it also shoot chroma key so you set up a green or blue background and the software will remove and replace with a background.
You kind of have to be a Photographer, an IT person, and an engineer to make everything work well together.
