WinTen(grand)Fridays?
104.1 The Dock in beautiful Barrie Ontario kicked off Win Ten Grand Fridays, and as opposed to running some quick, succinct, 17 second promos, for two weeks they blitzed the region with the letters "WTF?" in every way shape or form. Including a website wtf2015.com that was mysterious and didn't answer the question...until Friday when it started linking to their site.
From station owner Paul Larche: we blitzed Barrie for the final time this past Monday, August 31st where Chantal, Meredith and I went around and randomly dropped 12 money bags around the Barrie that each contained $100 in toonies and loonies. These bags had WTF business cards attached to them and each bag contained a note that clearly stated that whoever found that bag of money could keep it as long as they told at least 5 of their friends about WTF2015.com. We left them in grocery stores, on park benches, a gas station pump, in local malls, etc.
They got massive buzz, press and TV. And that's....why you tease.

Maybe The Biggest Radio Promotion Ever
One of the things that I immediate liked about Jerry Clifton was that he pissed off the competition. I'd never worked at a station where the competition even knew the name of our consultant but when I got to Kiss 102 in Charlotte, whenever I ran into another station, they would go OFF on Clifton. Because he didn't do things the way things are supposed to be done. The GM in Austin hated Clifton because he'd beaten his station in Houston in 6 months and blew them out of the format, and because, and he would never let this go, Clifton used the payphones at the gas station across the street as the request line.
Things I've learned:
- Nothing great was ever achieved by being safe.
- If everyone is doing something, don't do it, or do the opposite. If everyone is giving away weddings, give away a divorce.
- Take the idea and determine the line, the boundary that you're not supposed to cross...and then cross it by 50 feet. If someone is doing bras across the bridge, do bras across the state.
Honestly, US corporate Radio has sucked the creativity out of me. I'm way more inside the box than I used to be and it pisses me off.
Which is why I treasure the opportunity to work with Newcap in Canada. They do things big and they do things that people will remember and they are 100 times larger than life. They keep my mind in the game.
Hot in Ottawa exemplifies their whole mindset. They gave away invitro fertilization to five couples that were having trouble getting pregnant. This was brought up at a C Company and you would have thought that we'd suggested killing puppies on the air.
And last Friday Hot 89.9 wrapped up a promotion that awarded gender reassignment surgery to a listener. It's not The Free Money Cash Clock $1000 Code Of The Day but it's still pretty large.
